LYCIUS TO STAND IN MASSACHUSETTS

LYCIUS (Mr. Prospector Lypatia by Lyphard) will stand at George Brown’s Briar Hill Farm in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, starting with the 2008 breeding season. LYCIUS is expected to arrive at Briar Hill Farm in mid-November.

LYCIUS, an internationally successful stallion, stood for most of his career in Ireland.  He was brought to New York by his current owner, B.E. Stables, in 20O2. With 2007 progeny earnings just shy of $1.2 million to date, LYCIUS, lifetime, is the sire of one Champion, 12 group/graded winners, and 29 stakes winners. He becomes, by far, the most accomplished Thoroughbred stallion to ever stand in Massachusetts. Donna Janis, manager of B.E. Stables, says the stallion’s move to B.E. Stables’ home state is made possible by the recent push by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick for approval of three casino licenses. Suffolk Downs is a leading contender for one destination-type casino license.

George Brown and B.E. Stables believe approval of casinos in Massachusetts will have a very positive impact on Suffolk Downs’ purses and the state Thoroughbred Breeding program, leading to increased interest in owning Mass. Breds. Says Janis, “There has never been a Thoroughbred stallion of LYCIUS’ caliber and accomplishments standing in our state.  LYCIUS is a Gl winner who has sired a Gl winner. He will sire Mass. Bred runners with class, speed, stamina, and soundness. Worldwide, his progeny run on all surfaces, at all

distances, and win at the highest level. Mass. Breds of the future will be a force to be reckoned with.”  In 2007, LYCIUS stakes runners include PALLADIO, GIll Eclipse Stakes winner (new track record) at Woodbine, ORSAY, 3rd in the GIl National Hunt Club Novice Hurdle Stakes going 2 3/8 miles over National Fences at Radnor, and FINN TO WIN, 2nd in GI Dia de los Padres at Camarero.

LYCIUS is also establishing a reputation as a significant Broodmare Sire with such outstanding runners as Flower Alley (sire), Cactus Ridge (sire), and Nebraska Tornado (two-time Group I winner).

LYCIUS will stand for an introductory stud fee of $2,000 LFSN.
